The Organ at St James’s Church

As four of the recitals in the series are organ recitals, details of the organ may be of interest. As can be seen from the department and stop list below, much of the pipe-work from the original instrument built by Gray and Davison in 1857 was retained in the rebuild by Norman and Beard in 1911.

  • 1911: Norman & Beardrebuilt, TP action, 11 new stops, new console;
    Order Book 13, p.138, job 1117: 3-manual organ, £1,050; drawing;
  • 1878: Forster & Andrews. Renovated and moved to present position from what is now St. Stephen’s Chapel
